GoTab Software Update
RockChip CPUs
This procedure outlines how you can upgrade your GoTab to the latest firmware, giving you the most up to date features available on your GoTab. If you would like to download a PDF copy of this guide please click
PLEASE NOTE: Performing this Reset/Upgrade will restore your GoTab back to factory settings and remove any personal data (including apps you’ve downloaded). Please back up all your data before starting this update procedure and make sure the battery is fully charged.
Preparation. You will require the following to complete your firmware upgrade:
1. The latest version of the Firmware
2. RockChip Upgrade Tool and RK USB drivers.
3. A Windows PC running either (Windows XP or Windows 7)
4. Your GoTab & USB Cable (supplied with your GoTab)

Upgrade Procedure
➮ Before connecting your GoTab to the PC, check that the USB debugging option is off. Select system Settings from the “Home” screen, then scroll down and tap on “USB debugging”.
➮ Make sure that the “USB debugging” option is not ticked.
➮ Power off the GoTab by holding the power button for 10 seconds, disconnect all cables from the device and remove all memory cards.
➮ Unzip the RockChip upgrade tool to C:RockChip. Double click on the file “RKBatchTool.exe”.
➮ Make sure that the “USB debugging” option is not ticked.
➮ Power off the GoTab by holding the power button for 10 seconds, disconnect all cables from the device and remove all memory cards.
➮ Unzip the RockChip upgrade tool to C:RockChip. Double click on the file “RKBatchTool.exe”.
➮ Select the firmware by clicking the select image button (Fig 1). Browse to where you downloaded the firmware and select the GoTab-XXXX-FW.img file, and then select open.
➮ Once you have selected the required firmware, please connect your GoTab to the PC using the USB cable and turn it on.
➮ Once the GoTab has been detected you should see the RockChip tool report 1 connected device.
Now select “Switch” (Fig 3). You should see your Gotab screen go black; the tablet is still on, just in update mode.
Installing USB Drivers for Windows 7
This is for Windows 7 (if you have Windows XP please scroll down)
➮ Open Device Manager by clicking the Start button, right clickon Computer, choose Properties, and then, clicking Device Manager. If you’re prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
In the list of hardware categories you should see an item called Unknown Device. Right click on the Unknown Device and choose Update Driver Software (Fig 4)
➮ Choose “Browse my computer for driver software” (Fig 5).
➮ Then using the Browse button, locate the RockChip driver downloaded from our website (Fig 6).
Installing USB Drivers for Windows XP
This is the procedure for Windows XP
➮ Your PC will now present you with the “Found New Hardware Wizard”. Choose “Install from a list or specific location” and then click “Next” (Fig 7).
➮ Uncheck “Search removable media”, check “Include this location in the search”. Hit “Browse” and navigate to where you have downloaded the RockChip driver i.e. “C:RockChip”, then click “Next”.
Procedure continues
➮ Finally, once the driver is installed click ”Finish”. Devices connected (Fig 10) should then turn from pink to green, if not just unplug the device and reconnect it.
When the GoTab has been detected correctly, you can now click the “Restore” button to start performing the firmware upgrade.
Note: You will lose any data or Apps which have been installed on the device, during this process, so backup any essential data before continuing.
➮ The upgrade will begin, devices connected will flash yellow, and will notify you once it has completed. This process usually takes around 5 minutes and must not be interrupted once started.
➮ The GoTab will now reformat itself and reload the Android operating system.
When the tablet has fully rebooted, and you are back at the home screen, you can then disconnect your GoTab.
➮ You will need to go into ‘settings’ and switch on the Wi-Fi as the reset will have disabled it, turn it on and the tablet will automatically scan for available Wi-Fi networks, if none are detected, select scan in the top right of the screen under the wireless and networks category.
If this procedure fails for any reason, the GoTab may not be functional. In order to recover the device, perform the firmware upgrade again, paying special attention to every stage to ensure it completes correctly.
Please note that all your personal data, APPS and settings will have been erased and you will need to reconnect the tablet to your Wireless Network and re instate your G Mail account.
